What is a reseller and how to become one?

I’m having a bit of trouble understanding how things work so sorry if this is a silly question but I really need some help. I own a small repairs business and want to start repairing computers and laptops, I want to sell second hand computers with windows operating system and offfice etc as well as just selling the software on its own. How do I go about this? Do I have to sign up directly with Microsoft as a reseller? I can’t see anything on their website about this. Or so I purchase from a registered distributor and then sell it on? Do I have to pay a yearly fee? If I am installing an operating system on multiple machines that I am selling so I need to purchase one installation disk and separate product keys or do I need to purchase multiple installation disks? Again sorrry if this is a silly or confusing question but I’m really stuck and need some help.

Hi @GachiSoft (Aehyang),

I merged your question on this existing thread for visibility, and as @PerWerngren advised above, you can use this link to find a local distributor - you need to select the country, reach out and establish a connection : https://devicepartner.microsoft.com/en-us/connect/distributor

Hope this helps,

Andra

Hello,

My company is located in Korea.

As I researched, Azure Kinect DK product is not authorized to resell in Korea.

Therefore, I wonder if we have any chance to get permission to resell the product.

I joined Microsoft Partner Network.

If you let me know what I should do further, it would be appreciated.

Best,

Aehyang

Hi Aehyang,

My advice is that you talk to the Microsoft subsidiary in South Korea. Try to find the person responsible for hardware or someone responsible for developers.

Hi Per,

I found and talked to the Microsoft subsidiary in Korea. Unfortunately, they do not deliver Azure Kinect Developer Kit in Korea. They recommended me to join MPN program and become a distributor by ourselves. Currently, Microsoft verified my company in MPN and CSP program. I also registered device partner center and I am waiting for verification. Could you please let me know what step we should take to deliver Azure Kinect in Korea?
I really appreciate your support.

Best regards,

Hi @GachiSoft

I think that you should discuss this with Microsoft in South Korea. For this type of product it is important to have proper support from the local subsidiary. You wrote that they suggested that you should become a 'distributor' and I wonder why not a 'reseller' as that is more appropriate? Anyway, such a discussion is best to have with the local people at Microsoft South Korea.

Sorry, really trying to help!

Regards, Per

Hi Per,

As you said, I already tried to become a reseller through one of the indirect providers(SCK Corp. 2Tiership owned) in Korea. Unfortunately, SCK Corp. only delivers Azure cloud solution for resellers. That's why they told me to go through the process to become an indirect provider like them. My company is solution provider as well as system builder for supply chain management in Korea. When I tried to talk to Microsoft South Korea sales about it, the representative said the product is not currently available in Korea. The answer was not helpful at all. I really would like to get help from Microsoft South Korea in order to purchase Azure Kinect DK directly from Microsoft. If you give me any contact information regarding it, it would be greatly appreciated.

Best regards,

Aehyang

I also notice that you can buy from this company https://www.bigapplebuddy.com/product/277/azure-kinect-dk-developer-kit/38

They promise to be able to ship to South Korea.

Hi,

To become a reseller you do need to sign up directley with Microsoft, we are a CSP with many business such as yours.  We can give you access to the full range of MS products with a dedicated team to help and advise you.  Our team are available on 0333 332 0888 or visit our website cloudmarket.com, there are no yearly fees you just pay for what you purchase.

There are no stupid questions, and the onboarding process with Microsoft is not beginner/newbie friendly. I'm in the same boat as the owner of a marketing agency. I am actually a reseller of MANY solutions for my clients, but the process of 'what next' is never clear.

I would've rather they required education and testing BEFORE being qualified as a reseller if I was going to be left unsupported this way.

Dear Makaweli and LWBC,

Great questions! My very best advice is to talk to a distributor and open up an account with them as a reseller. There are multiple Microsoft distributors and Ingram Micro and Techdata are two of the larger ones with coverage in a large number of countries.

Furhermore, I stronhly suggest that you also enroll in the Microsoft Partner Network (MPN) and discover how to best market your solutions as well as to build additional knowledge. The link is here: https://partner.microsoft.com/en-us/membership (you might want to switch country)

Hope this helps!
