Announcing the path to net zero and Microsoft Cloud for Sustainability

As a part of overall ethics and integrity goals, Microsoft has a commitment to be carbon negative by 2030 and by 2050 remove from the environment all the carbon the company has emitted, either directly or by electrical consumption since it was founded in 1975. To reach this, datacenters must be part of the solution for broad decarbonization. The climate challenges we face won’t be solved by one company or industry alone.

In this blogpost, Microsoft is sharing about the approach to not only reach our goals, but also have a wider impact by empowering customers and partners through tools to measure progress, and through our own datacenter operations and supply chain on which our customers rely.  Supporting our customers on the path to net zero: The Microsoft cloud and decarbonization - The Official Microsoft Blog

In addition to these investments in our cloud infrastructure, the public preview of Microsoft Cloud for Sustainability was recently announced.

The work to reduce carbon emissions has become a global priority that requires focused and urgent action by all of us individually and collectively. We believe this new offering can make an important contribution to this effort, helping customers move toward more sustainable operations.
