Microsoft for Startups & success stories from Norway

Do you know high potential startup/scaleup and believe they would benefit from a partnership with Microsoft or a startup community that Microsoft should engage with? We want to get you involved in our work on bringing more innovation leaders into Microsoft’s partner ecosystem!

What is Microsoft for Startups?

Microsoft for Startups is a global program dedicated to helping B2B and B2B2C tech startups successfully develop further and scale their company in partnership with Microsoft. Benefits for startups include technical and commercial help: Azure credits (up to 120k USD for 2 years), O365 license package, Github Enterprise, access to Power Platform, unlimited technical consultations, and much more.

Why is the program important?

Supporting startups that build or are willing to build their innovative solutions on our platform is essential for expanding and strengthening our ecosystem. Many of these companies build niche solutions with tech or industry focus that create value we wouldn’t be otherwise able to deliver to our customers. They often have a deep industry background, insights, and network they are willing to share with us.

Willing to close more IP Co-sell deals at your accounts? To high potential startups that consume at least $5k/month, the Microsoft for Startups team offers full support on their way to become IP Co-sell ready.

Microsoft for Startups requirements

The program takes in high-growth companies that have the potential to successfully partner up with Microsoft and that are:

  • in the funding stage Seed-Series B
  • delivering a B2B/B2B2C SaaS/PaaS solution
  • equipped with a scalable cloud backend

From Microsoft’s side, it is crucial a startup has either an internal sponsor or a partner that is willing to engage in a collaboration.

InfoTiles is undoubtedly one of the biggest Microsoft for Startups success stories from Norway. InfoTiles is a cloud-based streaming service to gather, process, analyze and visualize companies’ data in one place, in real-time. The main target industries are utilities and public services like water, wastewater, and recycling.

The company joined Microsoft for Startups program in August 2019 with an offer of 120k USD in free Azure credits for the next 2 years. Their strong commitment to close collaboration with Microsoft and a truly proactive approach led them to be featured on the list of FY20 largest IP Co-sell deals among in-program startups in Western Europe.

InfoTiles is far from slowing down their growth. They recently closed a round of investment with Norwegian VC ProVenture of 15 million NOK. The success they attribute to, among others, strong partnership with Microsoft and presence on our AppSource marketplace.

Semine enables companies to fully automate their accounting processes even before the invoice document hits the financial system. Their secret sauce is AI-based classification of costs and automatic generation of suggestions for recording financial transactions correctly. Semine became a part of the Microsoft for Startups program in June 2017.

They can be considered true veterans as they joined when the program was still called Bizspark and Microsoft for Startups organization didn’t even exist (it was officially launched in February 2018). Semine, now a graduate of the program, is currently among the top 3 Norwegian startups with the highest Azure consumption.

Led by our former colleague – Lene Diesen, Semine is going from strength to strength. The company has recently entered into a partnership with OBOS to support 4700 housing associations with a platform to automate invoice management.
