AD joined devices to Azure Ad joined

Hi All, 

Client would like to remove onsite footprint and go entirely cloud, one of the challenges I can see is around provisioning devices from AD joined to Azure AD joined. For new devices its no problem - Autopilot and auto register for Azure AD . What is the best practise for existing devices.

@dorf74 : There is no direct conversion - since this process involve unjoining the device from the local domain anddo AAD join this means there is a new user profile. Generally I'd recommend to make sure that users sync their data using OneDrive for Business, so they will have their files back when the new profile is created. Also leveraging things like Enterprise State Roaming, or syncing browser settings (e.g. in Edge) via their work account will make sure they user will again have access to their data.

In terms of unjoining from domain in bulk ( assuming I go hybrid first ) would you recommend GPO or via Intune.

Initial idea is GPO - since Intune would mean that device is AzureAD registered already - but to do AzureAD join you would want to unregister anyway. As mentioned, best is connect with an expert in our Team, I'm not 100% sure if this is the best option.

Thanks for your response, Do you know how I can reach a conclusive answer on this one, keen to understand bulk azure ad join process for existing devices that are hybrid joined
