Office 365 EA to CSP

Hello

 

I have a customer that currently have an EA with a reseller in another country, but want to migrate from them to our CSP.

They only have Office 365 ressources.

 

All I can find is documentation about migrating an Azure EA to an Azure CSP, but no documentation about Office 365.

 

Can I just send them the business invite link to make us the new manager of their Tenant? Or is there a full migration to be handled, including the painfull migration of the O365 datas to a new tenant?

Can confirm - just send them the reseller invitation (noticed you mentioned "in a different country" - reseller invitation can only be accepted when in same CSP sales region as per https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/partner-center/regional-authorization-overview) and then you are able to provision licenses to them and no need for technical migration to new tenant.

However, if tenant locatuion is not in your sales region, you woul dneed to create a new tenant and then also migrate data & users to the new tenant.

 

For the secanrio that you are in the same sales region - In order to switch the billing to CSP you just need to provision new licenses via CSP - when the EA licenses are then expiring the licenses will be automatically reassigned. If the licenses from the old contract expire before you provision new ones via CSP, you will need to reassign licenses (no data loss if reassignment happenss within 90 days).

We have a customer who used to be under CSP with another partner, but now they have an Office 365 subscription under EA with us. When they try to raise a support ticket on the Admin Center, the previous partner is still under the Partner support even though they are no longer the serving partner. My question is, how can the customer raise their own ticket now, since the previous partner is no longer the support partner? Their current tenant is under CSP because of their previous agreement with the partner, but they are under EA now.

The customer should see a "contact Microsoft" below the drop-down where they choose one of the partners for support. It is not very obvious, but it is there as soon as the customer adds any non-CSP licenses to the tenant.

The tenant is not "bound" to either CSP or EA, the tenant is owned by the customer and beneath there may be licenses from different channels.

Other option is to ask the former partner to remove the customer from their side, given the old partner does not do service anymore. The customer can remove the admin rights themselves, but only the Partner can remove the generic connection to the customer.

Hi Team/Janosch,

 

Please if you could help me with a question:

 

Under a single tenant, there can be multiple employees using multiple subscriptions. Those employees can also be part of different countries.

Now, if CSP reseller purchases Office 365 licenses for one of their client, and the tenant & reseller are based in US region. I believe client can then see the purchased license under their O365 portal.

My question is - what will happen if the admin of that tenant assign such license to an employee based in India?

Will he be able to do so as the user is based in India, whereas the tenant&resellers are based in US?

Yes, user license can be assigned to a user in INdia from within a US tenant. CSP does only restrict the countries where the license can be sold to, it does not restrict where the licenses can be used. 

Of course in this scenario the India-based user would have his OneDrive and mailbox etc. located in the US, because the tenant is in the US.

Please I'd like to know the steps taken to migrate already existing users and data to the new tenant. (Assuming Customer and Partner Reseller are in different countries/regions).

 

I'd appreciate if you could also refer me to a link.

As noted in the article Microsoft doe snot offer a migration tool that can move data, so likely a third party migration tool needs to be used. 

Of course you can also "manually" copy data - e.g. moving sharepoint data to local devices, and then sync up again using OneDrive sync client - or use Outlook PST files to migrate mailbox content. Depends on how large the customer is and what data exactly needs to be moved - in most scenarios a 3rd party tool that can directly move data, configuration and permissions is preferred.

Hi @Timil ,

 

There was a similar thread recently on the topic : https://www.microsoftpartnercommunity.com/t5/Microsoft-Partner-Network/Microsoft-EA-to-CSP/td-p/5839.

According to it, for O365 there should be no actual technical move, only assigning the licenses to the customer. @JanoschUlmer , could you kindly confirm this, please ?
