Dynamics PSA becomes Project Operations

As a partner we make use of the internal use benefits including Dynamics 365 including Project Service Automation. We've had a few people now run a trial of Project Operations and the documentation for PSA states that this has now become Project Operations.

The launch even for Project Operations is 6th April, so its not actually transitioned yet, but what isn't clear if our existing IUR license will cover Project Operations, whether PSA will be upgraded as part of the next wave of updates to Dynamics 365 and if not what will happen to existing implementations of PSA?

Before I invest time and effort in development work on PSA I'm wanting to confirm that its not going to be wasted in the near future.

Hi @JASA1976 - did you ever get to the bottom of this? As in do us Microsoft partners still get IUR for Project Operations Lite?

I was told that we should still get IUR for Project Operations, but I wasn't 100% confident in what I was told.

We've not done the upgrade yet ourselves which will be the real test.

Yes, we still use PSA in house and are still not quite sure exactly what is going to happen. I can't believe Microsoft can't simply be clear on this.

We are the same with PSA in house, but also last time I asked the Dynamics team the actual upgrade process wasn't clear and was only in preview. Held off until we know we're not going lose access because of the licensing and also cause issues for our project management team.

If you hear anything concrete, please post an update on here 🙂

We just want to upgrade to Project Operations Lite which still sits on Dataverse/CDS.

On this Microsoft Docs page: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/dynamics365/project-operations/psa/upgrade-project-operations-non-stocked

......it states that a full migration should be possible from April 2022. It also states that a prerequiste is that Project Operations licences need to be assigned to all users. Not sure how possible this will be via IUR.

I think the answer may be the new Solutions Partner Benefits.

If you look at the benefits from October Project Operations is called out as a benefit of the Solutions Partner for Business Applications.

Yes I saw the new benefits list for the Biz Apps solutions partner which I must admit are very generous. It's just a question of how many of the smaller partners will reach the 70 points, including us.

I think that will be an issue for all smaller Business Apps partners as you need 20 people to pass exams to get the full points from the intermediate skills section never mind the advanced qualifications, which seems beyond most.  Its as if they are forcing the smaller partners out of this track.

It's so frustrating because Microsoft launched a specific SMB biz apps track about 18 months ago, under the Small & Midmarket Cloud Solutions competency. There is an SMB track in the new model but only for Modern Workplace. They really need an SMB track for the Biz Apps one as that would solve it.

It is especially as when you start reading about the new partner experience they talk about having an SMB track for the new disciplines, but then as you say the only one to have that is the Modern Workplace.

We've been tracking the dates and every month they seem to just put them back a month.

Lots of views, but no information coming forward on this, so I've raised a support ticket within the partner center and will update here when I get a response.
