Intune - Fresh Start confusion

Hey Everyone,

Can I have a clean feature list of the Intune Fresh Start option?

I have used the Fresh Start option in Intune to test the feature but the message prompt before hand is either a bit misleading or something isn't working right.

It says "Cleaning this device will remove all preloaded Win32 apps and update the device for free to the current version of Windows 10."

I'm testing with 1803. My assumption would be that the device would get updated to the latest version of Windows 10, i.e. 1809 or possibly, although unlikely, 1903.

MS doco doesn't go into enough detail regarding the feature: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/intune/device-fresh-start

And all other articles refer to it as being a feature of 'Fresh Start': https://www.petervanderwoude.nl/post/factory-reset-fresh-start-autopilot-reset-so-many-options/

https://sccmentor.com/2018/03/29/using-fresh-start-to-reset-windows-10-devices-via-intune/

Feedback appreciated!

Re: Intune - Fresh Start confusion

Thank you for the post. However, I am not able to understand your real question. Are you asking which Windows 10 build will Intune Fresh Start upgrade the system to at this point in time?

Re: Intune - Fresh Start confusion

Fresh start will not upgrade the device automatically to newest release, the text is wrong. Windows version will stay the same.

Same is true for the dialogue within Windows 10.

The documentation for this https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/intune/device-fresh-start does not mention this anymore, the dialogue within the product(s) was not fixed with a patch (afaik it was fixed in Windows 1903 only).

Interstingly, so far there also seems to be no feature request for fresh start to offer this: https://microsoftintune.uservoice.com/forums/291681-ideas?query=%22fresh%20start%22
