PowerBI stories from the NonProfit Community?

Hi All,

I just found this community and wanted to ping you all about Power BI for NonProfits.  We help implement PBI and data solutions for our larger customers (Oil & Gas.) It usually takes off like wildfire.  We are thinking of offering our solutions to our NP clients as well.  Has anyone any experience working with PBI in that space? Any advice, success stories or case studies out there to look at before we 'dive in' to this adventure in 2021?

Thanks!  Orion

Hi @orion thanks for posting, and certainly Power BI is something that many nonprofits are starting to use, but there are many more that need help to understand how to make use of it.

Power BI can help find insights from the data that they have, to design better programs. It can also help the nonprofit to highlight the need to their donors and grant makers to appeal for more funding. It can also dramatically improve the reporting of the program and mission delivery that they get funded. We know that if they make better use of technology then they see increased support. You can learn more about that in the community post that I wrote back in 2019 here. (You'll see in the linked blog article that we use Power BI to visualize the data)

We also have a Power BI template that you can access from the Power BI page on our website, to get an idea of the kinds of ways that nonprofits are using the tool. And you may want to check out the Common Data Model for nonprofits (CDM) too. We've invested in the CDM as the starting point for development on Dynamics, Power Platform, and Azure data services, as quality of data is a challenge for many nonprofits. Hence having a unified view of data can help in starting a data consolidation exercise, sharing of data, as well as increase their options for application selection.

These references from Spanish Red Cross, Mountain Park Health, and Operation Smile share more on the value of Power BI to a nonprofit, but there are many more here.

So, please do check out the assets and the information. And I'd then encourage you to engage with a nonprofit to explore how you can help.

Cheers,

Ian
