Microsoft has made a number of program changes to support partners in their response to the ongoing COVID-19 situation, and on May 4th new requests of the Office 365 E1 CSP 6 months Trial offer were discontinued. This means that we need to revert to the original guidance to help a nonprofit access the Volunteer offer.

A reminder of the Volunteer Offer:

On March 12th Justin Spelhaug, GM for Tech for Social Impact, announced the Office 365 E1 6-month Trial for nonprofit volunteers offer and reminded nonprofits of our paid and donated SKUs for their employees. These employee and volunteer offers are in addition to the Office 365 E1 offer made available to commercial customers, including the UN, a week earlier.

Details of the volunteer offer:

  • Office 365 E1 Trial offer for nonprofit volunteers up to 2000 seats
  • Trial available for 6 months for free
  • The nonprofit, not the volunteer, must initiate this offer for their volunteers – admin initiated
  • At T-60 days before end of trial, we will communicate with nonprofits that the trial will end in 60 days and provide guidance on moving to other SKUs

Guidance history:

At the time of launch, the provided advice to access the E1 6-month trial for commercial or nonprofit volunteer was to request a Promo Code and then apply that to the customers tenant. Then in early April a new Commercial ‘Office 365 E1 Trial’ on CSP was created and we gave the advice that the CSP Trial could be used to provide the Volunteer offer for eligible nonprofits.

However Microsoft has since made a number of program changes to support partners in their response to the ongoing COVID-19 situation, and on May 4th new requests of the Office 365 E1 CSP 6 months Trial offer have been discontinued, and the company has introduced new promotions for commercial customers via paid SKUs for Office 365 E1 and Microsoft 365 Business Basic (formerly Office 365 Business Essentials). Those promotions will give customers 6 months free when committing to an annual subscription.

Hence to continue to provide the Volunteer offer for nonprofits we have reverted to the original guidance. So please refer to the information below for the best way to help your eligible nonprofit customers access the Office 365 E1 Trial for their volunteers.
